Man killed in fire blamed on lit cigarette

The firefighters discovered the body of a 40-year-old man in an apartment in Balti town. Most probably, the fire was caused by a lit cigarette, the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service says in a communiqué.
The fire broke out on March 25 at about 23.00. A partly burned armchair was found in the same room. Allegedly, the man fell asleep and got poisoned with fumes.
The same day, a Mercedes- Benz car and an Audi-100 were destroyed in fires in Basarabeasca district. An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the fires.
As many as 467 fires have happened in Moldova this year. They resulted in 78 deaths.
