Man jailed for abduction and fraud

The Centru District Court sentenced a 23-year-old man to 30 months in prison on charges of fraud and kidnapping, the General Prosecutor's Office said.
In November 2008, the sentenced man forced another man into a car by impersonating a police officer. Then he drove the victim to a garage, where he locked him. Through threats and physical violence, the kidnapped man was forced to sign a statement whereby he confessed to stealing a firearm.
The statement was then used to blackmail the victim, who was required to pay 3,000 euros. The kidnapper was arrested when he received half of the sum.
