A Moldovan living in Ukraine was sentenced to ten years in jail for illegally selling an apartment worth over 600,000 lei in the center of Chisinau. The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases said the man planned the scheme together with other members of a criminal group, IPN reports.
Another participant in the scheme got ten years and a half in jail for swindle in 2005. The accomplice of this, who was sentenced recently, obtained illegal IDs and moved to live in Ukraine. He was arrested when he entered Moldova last August.
The accused misappropriated the apartment valued at over 600,000 lei by swindle. The convicted group member rented the apartment and then promised to the apartment’s female owner to facilitate her daughter’s studies in England, asking from her a power of attorney with which he later sold the apartment to his group mate, who later put this up for sale.
The Buiucani Court of Chisinau also obliged the swindlers to pay 200,000 lei to the cheated apartment owner in respect of non-pecuniary damage. Earlier, in 2007, the Centru Court ordered to pay the 360,000 lei the swindlers got for the apartment back to the client. For now the client received only a part of the damages from the accomplice who was sentenced earlier.
