A man was sentenced to five years in jail for attempting to smuggle almost 200,000 cigarettes to the value of about 230,000 lei through a section managed by the Cuhnești Border Police Sector in Glodeni last April, IPN reports.
Then, the man aged 27 was caught swimming across the Prut to see if there was a patrol on the other side of the river. He was detained and remanded in custody. The other person who took part in the commission of the illegality was put on the wanted list, the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases has said.
The judgment was passed by the Glodeni branch of the Drochia Court and can be challenged in the higher court.
