A resident of Cahul district was sentenced to 30 years in prison for double murder, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s office, in February the culprit received a man and his wife at his place and drank alcoholic beverages together with them. Being under the influence, the offender aged 65 stabbed the two with a kitchen knife and then strangled them. The bodies were found by neighbors shortly after the commission of the crime.

The defendant’s lawyer challenged the verdict, invoking the man’s age and the fact that he admitted his guilt as attenuating circumstances. Recently, the Cahul Appeals Court rejected the lawyer’s appeal as groundless, upholding the conviction of the first court. This decision can be yet appealed.
