The Court of Appeals sentenced Ion Druta, who is known in the criminal world, to 20 years in jail for three murders committed 14 years ago. In 2010, the first court acquitted him in this case. The head of the General Police Inspectorate Ion Bodrug Monday told a news conference that Druta was arrested and is serving time in prison, IPN reports.
The convict is wanted in Romania and is to be tried for offenses committed on the territory of the neighboring state.
“On July 12, the Court of Appeals found Ion Druta guilty. He was arrested in Chisinau in the moment when he tried to hide from the police,” stated Ion Bodrug. The decision can be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice within 30 days.
Minister of Defense Dorin Recean approved of the work done by the police and said that the officers who took part in Ion Druta’s arrest will be awarded.
According to the information collected during the investigation, the three victims disappeared in 2000. The men had a meeting with Druta in Ialoveni town and were then shot dead and taken to a forest not far from the Chisinau – Hancesti road. The skeletons were found in eight years. Ion Druta was earlier tried three times for other crimes.
