Man gets 17 years for murder and robbery

A man aged 24 was recently sentenced for committing two serious crimes against two pensioners from Ceadir-Lunga. This spring, he has worked for the elderly couple and entered their home with the aim of stealing the money these accumulated from pensions, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the aggressor disconnected the house from the power supply and then attacked the elderly woman, hitting her with an ax and killing her. Hearing cries, the husband came to see what was going on and was also hit by the culprit, losing his consciousness. The aggressor looked for money through the house, but could not find it and left. He was arrested shortly afterward. He told the police that he needed money to settle a number of debts.

The culprit got 17 years in jail. The sentence can be yet appealed to a higher court.
