Man from Gagauzia gets almost 22 years on three counts

An inhabitant of Dezghingea village of Comrat municipality was sentenced to 21 years and 11 months in jail on three counts. The man was found guilty of murder, theft and illegal keeping of munitions. The sentence was passed by the Vulcănești branch of the Comrat court, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the murder was committed last July. The man invited a villager to his home and they drank alcoholic beverages together. Later they started to quarrel and the host hit his companion with a metallic bar in the head for several times, killing him. He then dismembered the body, took the man’s golden ring and threw the parts of the body into the well in his yard.

The crime was discovered shortly afterward. During searches at the man’s home, there were found three illegally held cartridges. The man was held on remand until the sentence was passed. He is 53 and was earlier tried.

The man was also obliged to pay 515,000 lei in respect of pecuniary and nonpecuniary damage to the successor of the injured party. The sentence can be challenged in the Appeals Court.
