Man from Chisinau dies from flu

A man aged 40 from Chisinau, who was diagnosed with flu A(H1N1), bilateral pneumonia, cardiac insufficiency and other complications, died last week. He suffered a septic pulmonary shock and heart arrest. The man hadn’t been vaccinated against seasonal flu, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection said the flu epidemiological situation is at an average level. During March 19-25, there were reported 1,286 new cases of acute upper respiratory tract infections, a decline of 20.5% on a week before.

As many as 35 samples were examined at the lab of the National Public Health Agency to detect flu and non-flu viruses. The flu virus B was detected in eight samples, the flu virus A(H1N1) in one sample and non-flu viruses were identified in six samples.

Five cases of death from flu have been recorded the current flu season. The victims included three women, a man and a teenage boy.
