A 27-year-old man from Cantemir was arrested for 72 hours on suspicion that he put false 200 lei bills into circulation. Three more persons aged between 18 and 25 suspected of complicity are under investigation, IPN reports.
A taxi driver complained that he was paid banknotes with evident signs of falsification for his services. The police established that the suspected young men paid with such bills at filling stations and at stores.
The probe lasted for a year. The suspects face 7 to 15 years behind bars.
