As many as 246 persons were taken to the Chisinau Night Center for the Homeless last week. A 57-year-old man could not be saved as he froze to death, Info-Prim Neo reports. Municipal police chief Silviu Musuc Monday said the man was found on Costiujeni St, but his domicile was in Codru town. “Employees of the regiment “Scut” and police teams carry out raids every night, in concert with the Night Center for the Homeless. Those who do not have a place to live are taken to the Center, where they stay until morning. But in the morning they go again to the street,” said Silviu Musuc. During the raids, there were identified 30 vagrant minors, 25 of whom came from other settlements of the country. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca asked systematizing the information about homeless persons. “This happens because of poverty, lack of workplaces and the impossibility of surviving in other conditions. We should ensure minimum conditions for these persons the next year,” he stated. Nine persons died of hypothermia so far this year.
