A man was fined 70,000 lei in an influence peddling case. The criminal case was started by the National Anticorruption Center in August 2021, IPN reports.

According to the accumulated evidence, the illegalities were committed between September and October 2021. The defendant intended to make profit from real estate transactions and turned to another person who had influence over civil servants of the Cadaster Division of the Public Services Agency. Thus, for the amount of 2,640 lei the defendant obtained the necessary documents, avoiding legal procedures and without the physical presence of the applicant.

The criminal investigation, carried out under the procedural leadership of prosecutors of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, lasted for two years. As a guilt admission agreement was reached, the trial of the case lasted for only 7 months. The case was examined by a specialized judge for only one month.

Recently, the court found the defendant guilty of influence peddling, fining him 70,000 lei.

The sentence can be challenged in the Chisinau Court of Appeals.
