A man from the municipality of Bălți aged 62 drowned in a local lake. He reportedly entered the body of water to take his fishing tools and could not get out.
Contacted by IPN for details, press officer of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations Liliana Pușcașu said that the rescuers took the man out from a distance of about 2 meters from the bank. He was unconscious. The ambulance doctors who were arrived at the scene only stated his death.
According to the Inspectorate, over 4,000 persons drowned in Moldova’s rivers and lakes over the last 21 years. More than 30 cases of drowning were reported so far this year. Three of the victims were minors.
