A man, 48, from Chisinau's suburban town of Cricova was hospitalized on Wednesday, June 25, in critical condition after falling asleep while drunk and spending several hours in the scorching sun. Doctors are rather skeptical about his survival chances. Dr. Eufalia Negreata of the Chisinau Emergency Service has told Info-Prim Neo that the man came home in an advanced state of drunkenness and passed out on the grass in the yard. Several hours later, he was found in coma, suffering heart failure and thermal shock. Other sunstroke victims include a two-year-old, who was left to play in the yard with his head uncovered, and a 56-year-old workman. Both were hospitalized. Dr. Negreata says that yesterday ambulance crews were called multiple times from the street and the Central Market to respond to cases of loss of consciousness due to the hot weather. A man lost the capacity to move his legs because of a spinal fracture which he suffered after falling from the third floor. The man felt dizzy and lost his balance when trying to hang his freshly washed pair of trousers over the balcony rail. In a similar case, a workman fell from a 4 meter hight at an enterprise on Uzinelor Street, injuring his head. The number of calls for help at the Chisinau Emergency Service yesterday rose by more than 150 compared with the previous days. Out of 810 emergency calls, 197 cases involved children.
