A man from Anenii Noi district was jailed for trafficking four men from the same district for exploiting their labor, IPN reports, with reference to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

It was determined that in December 2012 the culprit recruited four men to do seasonal jobs in the Russian Federation. He promised them a high salary, free accommodation and food. When the victims reached Voronej region, they were deprived of identification papers and were forced to work in inhuman conditions for several months and were later paid very small remunerations.

In May 2017, the common law court acquitted the culprit, but the sentence was challenged and the Chisinau Appeals Court sentenced the man to seven years and six months in jail. The judgment is not yet definitive.
