A 56-year-old man from northern Moldova was sentenced to ten years in jail by the ordinary court of law for sexually exploiting a boy aged 16 in 2011. Since March 2019, the man had been in remand detention, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the man profited from the fact that the victim was in a vulnerable situation and lived with his grandparents only.
The prosecutors started to investigate the man as in 2013 he persuaded a foreigner to recruit the teen and to repeatedly abuse him sexually when he came to Moldova. The foreigner was convicted of trafficking of children for sexual purposes.
The sentence can be challenged in the Appeals Court.
