A man was arrested at the Palanca border crossing point on suspicion that he attempted to smuggle cocaine and heroin into the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

“The man is allegedly the member of a Chisinau-based organized criminal group trafficking in drugs,” said the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases. The suspect was detained when he tried to smuggle packets with tens grams of cocaine and two grams of heroin over the state border.

The found quantity of drugs is considered very large. The drugs and the luxury car driven by the man were confiscated. The 40-year-old suspect is to be remanded in custody.

Contacted by IPN for details, press officer of the Border Police Raisa Novitski said the drugs were transmitted to a lab in Chisinau for examination. The court of law takes a decision about the drugs at the end of the trial. The confiscated narcotics are usually destroyed.
