A Moldovan man was arrested after he tried to smuggle €550,000 on Thursday morning. The money was hidden in a bag and the man said that he doesn’t have what to declare to the customs authority, as the legislation requires, IPN reports.
According to the Customs Service, the 60-year-old man was driving a luxury car. In the customs post, he said that he doesn’t have anything to declare. However, the customs officers examined the car and found the bag with over half a million euros in it.
The money and the car were seized. The suspect, who also has Romanian nationality, was arrested for 72 hours. The prosecutors are to take a decision whether to ask for remand detention for him or not so as to ensure the objectivity of the investigation.
