A man was arrested in Comrat for hurting a police officer. The incident happened this morning, August 14.
Seargent Valeriu Neagu told IPN that he stopped a vehicle with Bulgarian plates because it had no tax disc and demanded the driver's papers for verification. The latter locked the car doors and hit the gas pedal, straining the policeman's arm with the rearview mirror.
According to Valeriu Neagu, the driver was arrested later, when trying to get out of the town in a taxi.
Platoon commander of National Patrol Inspectorate's Southern Battalion Alexei Costiuc told IPN that the suspect was arrested for 72 hours. Both his and the police officers' actions will be investigated.
Elena Uzun from Comrat told the IPN reporter that the frequency of attempts to undermine police authority has increased lately and local authorities aren't doing anything about it.
The first deputy governor of the Gagauzia Autonomy admits there might be someone interested in aggravating the situation. He suggested it could be someone from the administration or the mass media who accuse the people of separatism and incite conflicts.
