Man arrested in attempt to smuggle 4 tonnes of alcohol

A 25-year-old man from Palanca village, Stefan Voda district, has tried to smuggle 4 tonnes of ethyl alcohol to Ukraine, but was caught. The value of the merchandise is assessed at 70,000 lei, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the Interior Ministry. According to the police, the smuggling attempt was uncovered at 50 m from the Tudora customs office, as the liquor was hidden in a Iveco truck. According to the police, the driver could produce no document about the provenience of of the merchandise, neither any permit allowing to export the alcohol. An assistant of the Chisinau-Moscow train, aged 31 and residing in Braicau village of Donduseni district, has tried to smuggle wine from the country. The police found 1 tonne of wine in polymeric bags hidden in the car. The wine was smuggled to be sold in Russia. Another assistant of the same route, aged 44, was arrested as he was trying to smuggle computer accessories worth 110,000 lei. The merchandise was carried from Kyiv to Moldova. He may be jailed for up to 10 years. The police has uncovered 143 cases of smuggling this year.
