The former head of the public association “Lăstăraș” was arrested by officers of the National Anticorruption Center on October 25. The man is accused of appropriating money from parents of the children who attended kindergarten No. 199 “Lăstăraș” of Chisinau municipality, IPN reports.
In a press release, the National Anticorruption Center said the man during September 2015 – August 2017, on the pretext of paying teachers of foreign languages, informatics, plastic arts, music and choreography working at the kindergarten, monthly collected by 1,200 to 1,400 lei from parents. The association’s fund monthly consisted of about 600,000 lei and the largest part of the money was embezzled by the head.
The man signed an agreement to lease out spaces of the kindergarten that were turned into private groups. Children’s parents were forced to pay additional amounts of money. If they refused, they were obliged to leave the kindergarten or the children were transferred to poorly outfitted groups.
The activity of the association was supported by the head’s mother who served as vice director of the kindergarten and by his partner who was the institution’s director.
