A woman aged 28 fell into a 25-meter deep well. Her partner tried to take her out and got stuck in the well too. It happened in Hartopul Mare village of Criuleni district. The two stayed in the well for about half an hour until the rescuers took them out. The woman was hospitalized and is now in the intensive care section. According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, the rescue operation was difficult because the well was deep and the woman suffered injuries.
Contacted by IPN, the local social worker Mariana Castravet said the woman has two children – one aged 7 from the first marriage and another one aged three months with her current partner. The family is a socially deprived one.
According to villagers, the woman was under the influence or alcohol and jumped into the well, this being not her first suicide attempt. Several years ago, she also jumped into a well and was rescued by a neighbor then.
The Civil Protection and Emergencies Service said that five persons have fallen into wells so far this year in the municipality of Chisinau alone. These were saved by firefighting and rescue teams. One should immediately call the 901 Service when seeing persons in danger.
