Police reacted after a 25-year-old Leova man posted on social media that he was selling one of his kidneys in order to raise money for an apartment in Chisinau.
The Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons started criminal proceedings to verify all the circumstances. After the Center talked to him, the man agreed to remove the posts.
The Center is warning the public that any advertisement to illegally procure or donate human organs, tissues or cells is an offense punishable by fines ranging from 25,000 to 37,500 lei or up to 240 hours of community service.
In 2017, the Center documented six cases of illegal procurement of reproductive cells.
