Major wildfire ravaged 8ha of forest

A large-scale fire that broke out in a forestland near the “Milestii Mici” wine factory, Ialoveni district, consumed locust trees and pines on an area of roughly 8 hectares. The fire broke out on July 30. Because of strong winds, the fire spread rapidly on large areas, ravaging a great part of the pastureland near the wine factory and the surrounding forest. 50 firemen on 9 vehicles were dispatched to fight the wildfire. “Because of the rugged terrain and lack of water sources within reach, fire fighting was extremely difficult. Fire source location alone took us nearly two hours”, the firefighters said. Over the past 24 hours, firefighters responded to 83 calls, reacting immediately.
