Main show of “Language Day” holiday will take place in the Summer Theater

The main show of the “Language Day” („Limba noastra”) holiday of this year will take place in the Summer Theater in the Mills’ Valley (Valea Morilor) park. The celebration of the event will traditionally commence with flowers laid at the monument of Stefan the Great, afterwards flowers will be laid at the monuments of the Romanian literature classics from the “Stefan the Great” public garden. In the park there will also be recitals of music and poems, the latest editorials will be presented together with craftsmanship items of children from Chisinau schools. At 12:00 in the Writer’s Union headquarters there will be a symposium of philologists from the Republic of Moldova, Romania, France, Germany, the Russian Federation, Ukraine and other countries. Meanwhile, in “Stefan the Great” public garden a show with artists from Buiucani district will begin. A requiem will take place at the Central Cemetery on Armeneasca Street starting with 12:00 in order to honor our ancestors that praised the nations’ customs and our language - Ion Vatamanu, Nicolae Costin, Ion Dumeniuc, Nicolae Sulac, Ion si Doina Aldea-Teodorovici, Petru Teodorovici, other key personalities that took part in the events from 1989 and for the fallen in battles for the integrity of the Republic of Moldova. At the National Library there will be a “Top 2005 books” festivity included in the National Book Store. Between 14.00 and 17.00 in the “Stefan cel Mare” public park there will be a Concert with local singers and child choruses and the show of music and poetry “Memorial to the Word”. The national celebration will end with an extraordinary show with play of the Folk music orchestra „Folclor” and singers of national music from Moldova and Romania. The show will take place in the Summer Theatre in the Mills’ Valley (Valea Morilor), a place that housed the national rebirth movement since the end of the 80’s. On August 31, 17 years ago, in the Great National Assembly Square (Piata Marii Adunari Nationale) from Chisinau, hundreds of thousand persons have achieved the declaration of the Romanian language as State Language and the change to the Latin character of writing. The National Holiday, that until 2001 was entitled “Romanian Language day” and from 2001 is called “Language day” is organized by Writer’s Union, local public authorities from Chisinau municipality, with the support of the National Library, Pro-Noi Association, Vatra cultural association, Republican House of child and youth creativity.
