The list of purchases needed on Easter is assessed at over 1 000 lei. Even so, despite financial difficulties, the people say they are ready to pay as much as needed to as to have the traditional Easter foods on the table. A number of buyers met at the market stated for Info-Prim Neo that the Easter meal should obligatorily include lamb. The women paint eggs and bake pound cakes. They will also prepare meat jelly, salads, cutlets, pancakes, rolls with walnuts and garnished fish. “I buy fish, meat, eggs, dairy products and fruit. I usually make purchases at the market as the products here are fresher and I can choose what I want. Furthermore, the prices are lower than in shops,” said a buyer. Another woman was looking for lamb. “I earmarked 1 000 lei for the Easter meal. But I hope I will save some of this money,” she stated. Another buyer said the prices rise every year. “However, we must prepare the traditional foods liked by the members of our family. I allocated 1 000 lei, but I will probably make some purchase for Low Sunday too with this money,” said the woman. A kilogram of pork chop costs 75 lei, while of pork fillet - 80 lei. The lamb chop is sold for 35 lei, while the beef chop for about 45 lei. Ten eggs cost 8-12 lei, while a kilogram of ewe’s cheese - 70 lei. The price of fresh carp varies between 30 and 50 lei a kilogram, depending on the size, while of smoked fish is about 90 lei. According to sellers, the prices of fruit and vegetables decreased slightly over the last week. Tomatoes and cucumbers are sold for 25 - 30 lei a kilogram. Bananas and oranges costs 18 lei a kilogram, while the greens - 3 lei a bunch. The Orthodox Christians this year celebrate Easter on April 15, while the Low Sunday a week later.
