Moldova Agroindbank (MAIB) is unhappy about the “the lack of balance” in some media reports covering Saturday’s burglary at one of its subsidiaries in Chisinau. The bank describes the allegations that the burglary has been due to insufficient concern for security as “not reflecting reality”.
MAIB said in a press statement that it operates one one the most complex security systems, including at the affected subsidiary, and that the private firm in charge of the bank’s security is a MoI-licensed operator meeting all the relevant standards.
The bank also said the exact value of the stolen money and items is not known yet.
On the night into Saturday, the thieves stole cash, jewelry and other valuables from 84 safe deposit boxes kept at MAIB’s Buiucani Subsidiary by breaking the window bars and the lock of the safe deposit room.
“The bank’s failure to take all the necessary security measures to prevent such cases indicates a total lack of concern on the part of the bank and other relevant institutions for implementing security standards in the financial and banking system,” the Police said in a press release.
