The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) will focus its efforts in developing irrigation systems in the south of Moldova. The statement was made today, July 31, by Minister of Agriculture Vasile Bumacov during a meeting that dealt with our country’s watering systems, reports Info-Prim Neo. “We all know that the southern region’s drought-related issues are worse, thus we decided to focus our efforts into that region”, said Vasile Bumacov. Meanwhile, head of “Apele Moldovei” Agency Marin Adam noted that Moldova has enough water resources, since it is located between two large rivers. The most stringent problem is the passiveness of the people who don’t want to do anything for getting irrigation systems. The authorities admit that the expenses for irrigation are rather high, yet this is the only solution for success in the long run. For the improvement of irrigation systems, the MAIA planned expenses of 80 million lei, for irrigating around 114,000 hectares. Irrigation systems for 14,000 hectares were built this year.
