The Republic of Moldova aims to finalize accession negotiations within the mandate of the current European Commission. President Maia Sandu said this during a joint conference with Marta Kos, European Commissioner for Enlargement.
President Sandu highlighted the significant progress made by Moldova in fulfilling the European Commission's recommendations and advancing accession negotiations. Maia Sandu also referred to the support provided so far by the EU, but also to what is to come in the near future.
"In the coming weeks, the European institutions will approve the Growth Plan for Moldova, an investment plan worth 1.8 billion euro, and the first money will reach Moldova this year," said Maia Sandu.
According to the Head of State, Moldova is preparing to become part of the Single Euro Payments Area. At the same time, the roaming charges between Moldova and member countries will be completely abolished by the end of this year.
For her part, Marta Kos reiterated the European Union's commitment to support the Republic of Moldova on its European path.
"Your country is an example of what can happen when there is political will. We are already discussing how we can, in the spring, open the first cluster of negotiations and prepare for the next two," the EU official said.
The mandate of the current European Commission will end on November 30, 2029.
