The joint candidate of the center-right for President Maia Sandu promises she will free the people from the burden of repaying the money stolen from the banking system and will depoliticize the prosecution service if she is elected President. She made these and other promises in electoral debates on “Moldova 1” TV channel, IPN reports.

“The stolen US$1 billion must be paid back by those who stole it. I will do my best for this to happen. I will also do this in relation to the billions of US dollars that were laundered through the Moldovan banking system. Making the thieves return the stolen money is my priority. I promise that the money will be restored, from your friend Ilan Shor, to whose wedding you was invited, and from your relative Melnic, who works for Shor,” said Maia Sandu, addressing her opponent Igor Dodon.

Maia Sandu also said that poverty fighting is another priority for her, but a powerful economy is needed for the purpose. “To fight poverty, we must have a powerful economy so as to be able to ensure jobs, decent salaries and pensions. We thus must fight corruption. You saw what kind of economy my opponent can offer. At least 30,000 jobs were liquidated while Igor Dodon served as minister of economy,” she stated.

According to the candidate of the Party “Action and Solidarity”, the pensioners are cheated when their pensions are calculated and thus they get less than they are entitled to. “The authorities cheated you when your pensions were calculated. The pension in our country is determined incorrectly. You, the people, get 26% of the salary, while Mister Dodon gets 70%, not speaking about the 26 million lei for the party that he got last year and 6 million lei for this year’s campaign. And he also owns property about which he does not want to speak,” said Maia Sandu, accusing Igor Dodon.
