Prime Minister Maia Sandu said the Government of Moldova decided to resume the political dialogue with the European Union in the most serious way. She made such a statement in a news conference held jointly with Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enragement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, IPN reports

According to Maia Sandu, in the meeting with Johannes Hahn they discussed the proposals for de-oligarchizing the country, freeing the state from captivity and building independent institutions that obey the law. There were also considered the priorities in the fight against corruption, investigation of the bank fraud and financial recovery in the context of the budget support and the program of macro-financial and technical assistance.

“We know that the expectations of this Government are very big. We aim to move on swiftly and bank a lot on the assistance of the European partners,” stated Maia Sandu.

For his part, Johannes Hahn said urgent reforms are needed in Moldova, especially in the justice sector that should become transparent and professional. The EU is ready to provide the necessary assistance, including international experts, at the request of the Moldovan side. The fight against corruption is also among the priorities.

“It was important to hear your commitment towards the Association Agreement and its implementation in the period ahead,” stated the Europeans official, noting that there is place for improvements.

Johannes Hahn approved of the peaceful transition of power in Moldova, expressing his gratitude to President Igor Dodon and all those who contributed to this. “I think it was an expression of political maturity of the country,” said the official.

Also today, the European Commissioner invited Maia Sandu to take part in the meeting of the Association Council that will take place in Brussels in the nearest future.
