The leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity”(PAS) Maia Sandu said that even if the election period began recently, elements that endanger the free and fair character of the presidential elections can be already signaled. According to her, the Democratic Party, which already presented 29,000 signatures in support of its candidate Marian Lupu, collected the signatures with violations of the legislation, IPN reports.
In a news conference on September 4, Maia Sandu said there are reasonable suspicions that the Democratic Party abused the administrative resources and forced mayors to work outside the working hours to fill out the subscription lists. Therefore, the PAS will submit a notification to the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The politician also said that the people from the diaspora contact the PAS and ask how they can sign for the party’s candidate for President. But the legislation does not allow the people from the diaspora to do this and they are thus discriminated.
She noted that some of the candidates use her name in the signature collection process. The PAS calls upon those who want to sign for Maia Sandu to make sure that the subscription lists include her name.
Maia Sandu was fielded by the PAS as a candidate for the October 30 presidential elections.
