The organizers of the Summit on Peace in Ukraine, which is to be held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, on June 15-16, are talking about the finalization of the list of participants. The Republic of Moldova will be represented by President Maia Sandu, who confirmed her participation among the first, on May 9.
Invitations have been sent to 160 countries and, according to reports, about 90 leaders will come to the mountain resort near Lake Lucerne at the end of the week.
In addition to the President of the Republic of Moldova, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sanchez, and many others confirmed their participation.
Moscow has not been invited but says it would not have attended anyway as the conference “will be about nothing”.
President Viola Amherd told reporters in the Swiss capital, Bern, that the summit, on Saturday and Sunday, will not be about propaganda.
As for Ukraine, the country expressed hope that the United States will be represented at the summit by President Joe Biden, recently stating it is “delighted” that Vice President Kamala Harris will go to the summit.
The Associated Press reported that the final list will likely be published on Friday, while several powerful regional players, such as Turkey and South Africa, have not announced their participation. India said it will send representatives, but it is not clear of what level, while Brazil and China warned that they will not take part unless both countries, including Russia, are at the table. Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis said that everyone knows that there can be no peace process without Russia.
