Maia Sandu to pay official visit to Berlin

President Maia Sandu will be making an official visit to Berlin during May 19-10, at the invitation of her German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The visit is aimed at giving a new impetus to the bilateral relations between the two states, IPN reports, quoting the presidential press service.

On the first day of the visit, Maia Sandu will have a meeting with the President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier, after which the two officials will give a news conference. In the evening of the same day, President Sandu will meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

While in Berlin, President Sandu will take part in discussions centering on the Republic of Moldova within the parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on EU Affairs. She will have meetings with members of the groups of the CDU/CSU, SPD and the Greens in the Bundestag.

In Berlin, Maia Sandu will broach the improvement of the bilateral relations between Germany and the Republic of Moldova, the political and security situation in the country and the region, the support needed by Moldova for alleviating the consequences of the pandemic, the more intense economic cooperation and improvement of conditions for the Moldovan diaspora in Germany. The official will take part in a public discussion titled “Moldova – a New Start” that is organized by Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS). This will be preceded by a meeting with KAS Chairman Norbert Lammert and Deputy Secretary General of the KAS Gerhard Wahlers.

The official delegation that will accompany Maia Sandu in Germany includes presidential advisers on foreign policy and economic matters Cristina Gherasimov and Veaceslav Negruța, respectively.
