During the first weeks of the inauguration of President-elect Maia Sandu, there will be organized a visit by the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis to Chisinau and a meeting with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. The announcement was made by Maia Sandu in a press briefing, IPN reports.

According to the President-elect, one of her priorities is to remove the country from international isolation. During less than two weeks, Moldova’s foreign policy “was taken out of a coma”.

Maia Sandu noted that during the campaign prior to the presidential elections, she pleaded for an active and positive foreign policy within which the Republic of Moldova would behave with dignity at the international level and, for its part, would be treated with respect, as the citizens deserve.

She also said that she started to restore the relations with Romania and Ukraine. The next day after elections, she had telephone conversations with the leaders of the two countries. She received congratulations and messages of support from the leaders of European countries and the administration of EU institutions. She received congratulatory messages from Russia, the U.S., China and many other countries, regional and international organizations.

“This openness offers new opportunities at the international level. I want a foreign policy that would bring concrete benefits to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. I want Moldova to be transferred into a European state and to have respectful relations with the other foreign partners,” stated Maia Sandu.

She noted that in the immediate period, she will focus on the obtaining of assistance for overcoming the health and economic crisis. She will ask for aid in the form of equipment, ventilators, digital mobile X-Ray machines, tomographers and medicines that are needed primarily in intensive care units, tests, protective equipment and consumables. As part of the cooperation projects with the EU and Romania, she will ask to supply the Republic of Moldova with COVID-19 vaccines as soon as possible.
