President Maia Sandu came with an optimistic message for the citizens. She said that there are now no preconditions for the Republic of Moldova to be engaged in military actions. There are no signals in the Transnistrian region pointing to eventual military preparations. There are rumors that attacks on Ukraine were also staged from the Transnistrian region, but these weren’t confirmed. The Moldovan authorities now concentrate their attention on the management of the flow of Ukrainian refugees who come to Moldova after fleeing from the war, IPN reports.

President Sandu said the Moldovans during the last two days showed exemplary mobilization and offered support to Ukrainian refugees. According to official data, over 20,000 Ukrainian citizens crossed Moldova’s border since the war started and most of them entered Moldova through the Palanca and Tudora border crossing points.

“The authorities are checking the IDs. No one enters without papers. There were made some exceptions. For example, the children do not need passports to enter, as earlier. Now they can cross the border with the birth certificate. Mostly women and children have crossed the border in the recent past as the men of a particular age were banned from leaving Ukraine. The airspace remains closed and its opening depends on the military actions in the region. The citizens should realize that the airspace was closed to ensure their safety and to avoid tragedies,” President Sandu stated in the program “Moldova Live” on the public TV channel.

She noted there are minimum risks for Moldova to be involved in the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Even if the Transnistrian regain is a hotbed of instability, there are no signs that military preparations are underway there. Ukraine was warned about the U.S. services about the imminent attack. In the case of Moldova, there are no such reports.

The official insisted that the Republic of Moldova is a neutral state and the status of neutrality is stipulated in the Constitution. President Sandu voiced hope that the big players of the world will take this into account and will not engage the Republic of Moldova into a military conflict.
