The Ministry of Education will revise the education curriculum in 2014 and will put it into practice since 2015, Minister of Education Maia Sandu said in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1. She underlined that the revision of the curriculum is necessary as it is now too heavy and some of the teachers overload the students with homework, IPN reports.
According to the minister, emphasis will be put on individual work with every student. But, if the number of classes is reduced, the number of teachers will also have to be reduced. The new Education Code that the Ministry of Education hopes will be adopted by next spring will diminish the additional classes and will ban the teachers from giving additional lessons to students whom they teach. “Under the Education Code, the number of optional subjects will be increased, while of mandatory subjects will be decreased. But it is hard do to this in small schools with a few teachers,” stated Maia Sandu.
She added that besides the revision of the curriculum, there will be held training courses for teachers so that they change their attitude and view on studies.
In the same connection, rector of the Academy of Economic Studies Grigore Belostecinic said the new Education Code is absolutely necessary and it is already overdue. If the Code had been voted five years ago, the situation in education would have been different. But many of the provisions of the new Code do not take into account the opinion of representatives of higher education. The opinion of university rectors is ignored. They do not agree with the provisions concerning the organization of higher education and consider that the branches of famous foreign universities in Moldova will pose a threat as there may come branches from states with hidden interests.
