Maia Sandu was sworn in for a new term as President of the Republic of Moldova. The ceremony held at the Palace of the Republic was attended by the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Igor Grosu and the President of the Constitutional Court Domnica Manole, IPN reports.

The President of the Constitutional Court read the excerpt from the Court’s final and irrevocable decision regarding the confirmation of the results of the November 3 presidential election, which validates the election of Maia Sandu as President of the Republic of Moldova.

Thus, Maia Sandu took the Constitutional Oath and the office of President of the country on December 24.

"I swear to give all my strength and skill to the prosperity of the Republic of Moldova, to respect the Constitution and the laws of the country, to defend democracy, fundamental human rights and freedoms, the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Moldova," swore Maia Sandu.

In her speech, Maia Sandu said that Moldova is not only a small country with a big heart, but also a source of inspiration to others in difficult times.

"My message today is optimistic. Moldova is not only a small country with a big heart, but also a source of inspiration to others in uncertain times. Moldova is swaying in the wind, but it does not fly like a leaf, but resists with determination, waiting for the plague to pass. Today I don't want to talk about waiting, because your patience was already tested," said Maia Sandu.

The official noted that in her new term, she returns before the citizens with gratitude and responsibility alike.

"You put your trust in me to continue a journey started together 4 years ago. I accept this new term first of all with humility, but also with determination. Four years ago, we promised good times. It was a sincere promise, but the times proved to be difficult, of hardship. Moldova found itself in the midst of regional and global crises. In these difficult times, we stood tall, we remained united and we moved forward resolutely. We managed to keep our peace and defend our democracy in the face of external threats," said Maia Sandu.

The ceremony involved multiple officials, including Prime Minister Dorin Recean, ministers of the current Cabinet, two former heads of state, Petru Luchinski and Nicolae Timofti, and other politicians. Maia Sandu gained her second presidential term after winning 55.35% of the vote in the presidential runoff on November 3, 2024.
