President Maia Sandu proposed a bill that introduces tax concessions for the Moldovans from the diaspora who decided to return home. The concessions include the exemption from paying a number of taxes on goods for personal use imported into the country, IPN reports, quoting the presidential press service.

“We are glad when the people from the diaspora decide to return home. But the return is often difficult. The high taxes on the goods that they accumulated while working abroad and want to bring with them are a problem signaled by many of those who want to return home,” said President Sandu.

According to her, the bill enables those who lived abroad for at least three years to introduce personal belongings, such as domestic appliances, furniture and by a unit of transport per family, into the Republic of Moldova on return. The possessions should have been under personal ownership for at least a year. “We hope to secure the next Parliament’s support for adopting this bill, while for our citizens we hope it will be an additional argument in favor of returning home,” stated the official.

The bill is available on the presidential administration’s website, while suggestions about it can be sent through the form.
