The president of the Action and Solidarity Party Maia Sandu, former Prime Minister, said the snap parliamentary elections are among the party’s plans. The politician considers the current legislature does not fully represent the will of Moldovan society, IPN reports.
“We know how this February’s elections were held and how some entered Parliament,” Maia Sandu stated in the TVC 21 program “Important”. According to her, the next parliamentary elections should be held based on the proportional representation system given that the previous parliamentary majority adopted relevant amendments to the legislation.
The politician said the legislation can be also amended so that it allows for the election of the President by the legislative body, but this should be done by referendum, concomitantly with a Parliament decision. However, public opinion polls show 90% of the citizens want to elect the President themselves. “I want to say that if Dodon tries to modify this formula for electing the President, it won’t be easy to do so as most of the people want this method to be further used,” stated Maia Sandu.
As to the new parliamentary elections in Hâncești constituency, the politician said it is absolutely normal for the two parties of the ACUM bloc, the PAS and PPPDA, to show interest in these elections. The fact that the two parties form part of one bloc does not mean that they will run together, with one candidate, in all the elections of the next years.
She noted that if a party president loses the elections in a constituency, this is a bad sign for the party.
