The joint candidate for President of the center-right opposition Maia Sandu requests Parliament to immediately adopt a bill that will enable the students to vote where they study, as it was done in the elections of 2014, IPN reports.

In a news conference on November 1, Maia Sandu said that if Parliament does not assume this amendment, the Central Election Commission should propose such a decision so that the students could vote where they study. The Commission came up with a similar initiative when those from the diaspora were allowed to vote with expired passports.

Another request of the candidate is to facilitate voting in the diaspora with the valid identity card given that many Moldovans who went to work abroad have the passport of another state, but do not have a Moldovan passport and thus could not vote. According to Maia Sandu, this problem can be solved by allowing the Moldovans to vote with the identity card.

The candidate also asked the responsible authorities to establish more polling stations abroad so that those from the diaspora do not have to wait in line after travelling hundreds of kilometers to the polls. Another request is to make sure that the polling places have sufficient ballots as people from the diaspora complained that they were directed to other polling stations after covering long distances as there were not enough ballots.
