All the instruments available to the leader of the Democratic Party (PDM) Vlad Plahotniuc – the police, prosecution service, justice, fiscal service, customs service – will be employed to make the MPs elected by constituencies to join the PDM, representatives of the Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) said in a news conference quoted by IPN.

PAS leader Maia Sandu said Vlad Plahotniuc is known as the most corrupt politician in the country, the biggest ‘buyer’ of MPs and the person who is hated by the people the most. She wondered where Plahotniuc was when the people became poorer and protested against corruption and the illegalities committed by the PDM.

“If Plahotniuc cares so much about the people’s will, he should leave the government,” stated Maia Sandu. She noted that by introducing the uninominal voting system, Plahotniuc wants to remain in power at any cost, even at the cost of the freedom and welfare of the people, by corrupting MPs chosen by uninominal constituencies.

“We, the people, do not want such persons as Short and Plahotniuc to enter the next Parliament. The political class must not be reformed, but replaced,” stated Maia Sandu.

PAS secretary general Igor Grosu said a broad process of intimidating employees of public institutions and state-run companies will follow and these employees will be forced to sign for the big initiative of Plahotniuc. The campaign to modify the electoral system is aimed only at conserving the power of the leader of the PDM, who now controls all the state institutions.

The Democrat Party suggests introducing the uninominal voting system instead of the party-list proportional representation system. In a news conference on March 6, the Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc said the PDM will promote this system, while the electoral law will be modified after the Venice Commission gives its appraisal.
