The Democratic Party (PDM) intimidates the citizens and presses them to take part in this Sunday’s demonstration, said the president of the Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) Maia Sandu, who noted she received numerous complaints about this. In a news conference on October 18, heavyweights of the PAS condemned the ruling party’s behavior and presented a list of 100 things that the Democratic Party will not say this Sunday, IPN reports.
Maia Sandu stated the PDM will bring the people by force to the planned event so as to create the illusion of power. “Those who are powerful do not have to intimidate, to blackmail teaches and doctors so as to make them take part in demonstrations. Only the cowards bring the people by force to continue to tell them lies,” said the PAS leader. According to her, after the Democratic Party took over, it has subdued the state institutions, including the Prosecutor General’s Office, transforming this into a political cudgel. Now the PDM tries to persuade society that it is not to blame for the abuses committed during these years.
Enumerating some of the items from the PAS list of 100 things that the Democratic Party will not say this Sunday, the party’s secretary general Igor Grosu noted the usurpation of power by the PDM, the complete failure to recover the stolen banking funds and the voiding of free and democratic elections. The citizens paid 618 million lei interest on the stolen US$ 1 billion in 2018. The list also includes the kidnapping and illegal deportation of the seven Turkish citizens in exchange for the funds for repairing the Presidential Building and the adoption of the mixed-member electoral system contrary to the recommendations of the Venice Commission and other European institutions.
PAS vice president Mihai Popșoi said the Democratic Party dynamited the foreign partnerships, both those with Russia and those with the West. By its resolution of this July, the European Union showed it no longer trusts the Government of Moldova and suspended the macro-financial assistance intended for Moldova. The country wound have now had the chance of submitting an application for EU membership if the reforms started seven years ago had been implemented. “The prospect of becoming a candidate for EU membership will be put off for at least ten years if the government is not replaced. What happened during the past few years was a macabre show that dynamited the European course and both Plahotniuc and Dodon are to blame for this,” stated Mihai Popșoi.
Contacted by IPN, spokesman for the PDM Vitalie Gamurari said the PAS’s accusations that the Democratic Party intimidates and presses public functionaries to take part in this Sunday’s rally are unfounded. “I cannot explain why the PAS would say something like this. Those who made such a statement probably used such practices when they governed,” stated Vitalie Gamurari.
