Moldova’s accession to the EU will be an investment in democracy and collective future in the space of peace called the European Union. With the transformation of Moldova as a country, Europe is also transformed. This is the message formulated by Moldova’s President Maia Sandu at the Salzburg 2023 Summit in Austria, where she delivered a speech on geopolitical changes in Europe and the region.
The president stated that the government in Chisinau is firmly committed to fulfilling its commitments to the EU and to its own citizens, such as reforming the justice system and cleaning up institutions of corruption. Maia Sandu noted that the Moldovan authorities are diversifying energy resources, restarting important infrastructure development projects, opening and liberalizing the country’s economy in order to become a country as attractive as possible for domestic and foreign investors.
“Today we are stronger than a year ago. This has been possible because instead of giving in, we stood up, as a people, as a country. With the help of our friends and partners, we focused on strengthening our resilience, our democracy, on reforming and modernizing institutions and, most importantly, on our country’s project - joining the European Union”, declared Sandu.
In June 2022, the European Council decided to grant Moldova EU candidate status.
