The Republic of Moldova has taken many decisive steps on the European path during two years, after it submitted the application for accession to the European Union, President Maia Sandu said in connection with the signing of this application on March 3, 2022, IPN reports.
On this occasion, the head of state came with a message saying that, during these two years, Moldova has taken many decisive steps on the European path. Also, President Sandu noted that these efforts were rewarded with the EU Member States’ positive decision to initiate the accession negotiations.
“The accession to the EU means better conditions in schools and kindergartens, upgraded roads, new bridges, hospitals outfitted with modern equipment and, most importantly, peace and security. We have a lot of work to do, but together we can achieve all the set goals. Together we have the power to overcome any obstacle and build a better future for the Republic of Moldova in the big European family,” concluded Maia Sandu.
The Republic of Moldova submitted the application to join the European Union a week after the start of the full-scale invasion of neighboring Ukraine by the Russian Federation. The European Council decided to open accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine on December 14, 2023.
