"Today, more than ever, the Republic of Moldova needs a strong Romania. A strong Romania is a European Romania. Moldova and Romania, united under the European Union flag, will be stronger together", stated President Maia Sandu at a reception in Chisinau on the occasion of Romania's National Day, IPN reports.

"It is a joy to celebrate Romania's National Day together, a moment full of significance for all who love Romania. This day reminds us of the deep bond between the two banks of the Prut. We, in the Republic of Moldova, love Romania as one loves an older sister: because we share the same roots, the same language, the same belief in a better future. We love it selflessly, without reservations or expectations. Every victory of Romania is also our victory. Every hardship is one we face together", noted the President.

Maia Sandu highlighted that both Romania and the Republic of Moldova are experiencing times that challenge democracy and shared values. However, she believes every challenge is also an opportunity to support each other and demonstrate that, together, they are stronger.

"The elections in Romania also reminded us of something we in the Republic of Moldova have experienced firsthand: democracy and freedom are under siege worldwide. The fight for freedom never ends. The distance from democracy to authoritarianism can be very short. On Sunday, we relived the emotions of our own elections. They touched a nerve but also reminded us of the power of a people that mobilizes in the face of danger. We realized that hope, no matter how strong, is not enough for good to triumph. A nation must defend its fate and place in the world at the ballot box", the President emphasized.

According to Maia Sandu, Moldova's future also depends on the path chosen by Romania. In the coming days, Romanians will return to the polls, and she expressed her full confidence that they will defend Romania.

"Romania is the shoulder we lean on when times are tough, but also the shoulder we celebrate with in moments of joy. And we want a strong shoulder! Let us support each other and walk shoulder to shoulder toward a better future. We wish for a free and strong Romania, just as much as we wish for a free and strong Moldova. That’s how it is between sisters! Happy National Day, Romania! Happy National Day to all Romanians!" concluded Maia Sandu.

Since 1990, Romania has celebrated its National Day on December 1.
