A group of persons protested in front of the Edineț District Council where President Maia Sandu was paying a working visit. The images posted on social media show the protesters were chanting “Down, Maia Sandu!”, “Shame” and ”In jail”, the police being present at the scene, IPN reports.
In a reaction later, President Maia Sandu said the right to protest is a constitutional right she respects and, as the President, she will do her best to improve the life of all the citizens, including those whose views or political preferences are different from hers.
While in Edineț, Maia Sandu had meetings and exchanged opinions with mayors, school principals, representatives of the local authorities, doctors and district entrepreneurs. The interlocutors told her about the pace of the vaccination campaign, the current situation in health and education, the problems faced in the settlements of Edineț district and the importance of equitably supporting local development projects, including those with European financing.
“Our country needs concrete solutions to overcome the crisis and serious measures to start a development and modernization process,” said President Sandu.
At the end of her visit, Maia Sandu went out of the budding of the District Council accompanied by bodyguards and other persons as there were protesters there chanting similar slogans.
