President Maia Sandu has invited the citizens to celebrate “European Moldova” on December 17, starting at 2 p.m., in the yard of the Presidential Palace. The event will be held in connection with the European Council’s decision to open accession negotiations with Moldova, IPN reports.
“Dear citizens, I invite you to celebrate European Moldova, to rejoice together at a historic step for the destiny of our country. We managed to secure the European Union’s trust, kept unity and worked all a lot for Moldova to gain the chance of a better future for its citizens,” said President Sandu.
The official urged all the institutions, partners, entrepreneurs in Moldova to speak about the European integration, to promote the country’s European course and to transform Moldova into a European state.
The European Council on December 14 decided to open accession talks with Moldova and Ukraine. It also decided to grant candidate status to Georgia, and said the bloc would open negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina once the necessary degree of compliance with the membership criteria is reached and invited the European Commission to report by March with a view to taking such a decision.
