“Only by education, we can get where we want as a country and only by investing in education, we can succeed. First of all, we should invest in teachers. We need to modernize teacher-training and make it relevant and interesting for the young people, to restore the previous respect of the profession,” President Maia Sandu stated in the Parliament constitution sitting, IPN reports.

President Sandu noted that Moldova can use the advantages of its geographical position and multilingualism to develop a teacher-training university renowned in the region or even internationally. The teachers should go hand in hand with modern technologies and should use these in the teaching process so that an individual approach is adopted to each child and no one is left behind. “If we do not take serious measures today, we will remain without teachers in many schools in several years. We must adopt a serious program to ensure the necessary number of teachers and also of health workers in the country’s localities,” stated Maia Sandu.

In another development, the official said the pandemic revealed how important the health system is for the country. The doctors and medical staff in the country made considerable effort in the fight against COVID-19, sometimes even at the cost of their life. “We should thank them for what they did and getting vaccinated is the best way of saying thank you to them. We have enough vaccines. The provision of vaccines was my priority during this half a year. By vaccination, we can avoid another major sanitary and economic crisis. The state institutions should have more powerful instruments to fight disinformation on the issue as this leads to losses of human lives,” said Maia Sandu.

According to her, many things are yet to be done in the health sector. First of all, the medical equipment in district hospitals and local medical centers should be renewed. Despite the precarious financial situation, the Government should identify resources to outfit the hospitals with essential examination and diagnostic equipment. Regional hospitals should be built in Bălți and Cahul so as to facilitate the people’s access to medical services of a high quality.

“The health reform means rethinking of the health insurance system. The money intended for the health sector can and should be much better spent. The people pay insurance policy, but have to pay when they are hospitalized or face less respectful treatment. The people should be treated well and with respect,” noted President Sandu.
