Prime Minister Maia Sandu claims that if the coalition partners in the Socialist Party are afraid of a genuine justice reform, it means that today they will bring in Parliament a motion of censure against the government. The head of the Cabinet of Ministers mentions that she will not give up on the decision to assume the amendment to the Law on the Prosecutor's Office and that she will go today to present this initiative in Parliament. According to her, this is the only correct solution the Government could have taken in order to reform the justice system, IPN reports.
"If they are afraid of the justice reform, it means they will bring in a censure motion and vote for the dissolution of the Government, if they have the same interest as we do - to put things right in the country, to build a rule of law, so that all thieves would know that they can no longer steal here for they would be sanctioned, so that people can have safety in the future, if they regard the interests of the citizen as a priority, then we will go forward together," asserted Maia Sandu.
The Prime Minister acknowledges that assuming responsibility has been a difficult decision, but says it is the only correct, legal and in fact the only decision that allows the government to proceed with a genuine reform of the justice system. "We have created this majority in Parliament and have kept it in order to remove the country from captivity and to build independent justice and if there is no real, genuine commitment from our partners in Parliament for true reform, it means we have no common goals. and we have no reason to remain in this majority,” said the head of the cabinet.
The prime minister says that the most toxic and corrupt judges have gotten a lot of nerve lately and behave in a shameless way: they try to overturn any decision; they impede prosecutors to investigate certain corrupt magistrates. "The way they behave, this audacity makes me believe that these people have political support, which is not publicly stated, but, when you think about it, it can only come from Mr. Igor Dodon, because in our case everything is out in the open, we are transparent, we speak very directly, we call things their own name and it is very clear that we want to purge the system of these people. As for the other side, discussions may be pleasant, but actions not necessarily,” explained the chief of the executive.
Maia Sandu explains that the Government has changed the pre-selection stage of the candidates for the position of Prosecutor General, but not the final procedure according to which the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) puts forward the candidacy for the position of prosecutor to the head of state. “Those who talk about constitutionality or its lack, firstly should wait to see what the Constitutional Court is going to say, not to appropriate the CC's decision. We have altered the pre-selection stage, as in the Constitution there are no provisions on the pre-selection stage, we continue to respect the process described in the Constitution because the CSP, from a short list, will elect and propose to the president this candidacy”, stated the politician.
According to Maia Sandu, the community of ambassadors accredited to Chisinau, with whom she met, endorses the judiciary reform and believes in the genuine intention of this Government to promote the reform.
